Episode 181 talks about how to be unapologetically Latina, featuring Odalys Jasmine of the Hella Latin@ Podcast. Listen now!
Odalys Jasmine is a first-gen Honduran-American from Southeast San Diego. By day, she’s an events project manager for emerging talent at LinkedIn, and by night, is the Hella Latin@ podcast host. She created Hella Latin@ for Latinos to tell their first generation and immigrant story, and share their unique experience of navigating identity in the U.S.
Since starting her podcast, she’s become a LinkedIn-managed creator, won top 61 Latino podcasts in 2021, signed contracts with big tech to speak about topics curated for Latinos. What started as a passion turned into a profitable business.
Simultaneously, Odalys Jasmine balances her career at LinkedIn where she creates experiences for Black, Latino and underrepresented talent to gain access, build community, and thrive in their careers.
Episode 181 Highlights:
- The first-gen experience—Odalys shares her own personal journey of navigating the first-generation experience and balancing between 2 completely different cultures and why she decided to create her platform, the Hella Latin@ Podcast.
- Breaking generational money traumas—We get an inside look at how money was (and sometimes still is) a relationship that Odalys has been healing from, from childhood to adulthood. Working through that scarcity mindset is something that SO many of our listeners can relate to. Take a listen.
- Fitting in vs. standing out—Odalys talks about moments in her life where she didn’t feel like she fit in, especially in the corporate world and how that affected her. She had a huge pivotal moment in her life happen where everything changed. Listen to find out what that was.
- Feeling the fear & doing it anyway—Many of us know that we want something more. We know that we want to find our greater purpose in life, but fear of the unknown stops us from achieving those goals. Listen to some advice Odalys gives around stepping outside of your comfort zone like she did in order to level up in life.
- And more!
We want to send a huge thank you so much to Odalys for the work that she does on elevating the conversation around the first-generation experience and being unapologetic AF about it. We really loved the honesty and realness she brought to the show. It’s important to have these conversations in order to remove those feelings of “otherness” that come up. We belong here and we damn sure deserve more than the bare minimum! It’s with platforms like hers that gives us the permission to dream big. Gracias amiga!
