Episode 179 features 2 sisters, 2 survivors sharing their stories of overcoming abusive relationships, featuring Jannese’s little sister, Lianne Torres of the Watch Us Thrive podcast. *Trigger warning: This episode discusses domestic violence. Listener discretion is advised*
Lianne is the creator and host of the Watch Us Thrive podcast; a personal development podcast that shines the light on how important taking care of our mental health is, how we need to heal from trauma that keeps us stuck in toxic, sh*tty relationships & ways we can reconnect with our inner magic✨.
In 2021, Lianne found herself in a physically and emotionally abusive relationship. With a number of failed relationships under her belt, she was used to accepting the bare minimum from her past partners and allowed them to treat her like crap. It wasn’t until the night that her life was almost taken from her that she realized something had to change and her deep-rooted wounds needed healing.
Lianne created her podcast to share her story and the stories of others. She’s passionate about having conversations with people who have gone through many life experiences and focus on the bigger picture…how they overcame it. Listen to brand new episodes, available on all major podcast streaming platforms like Apple podcasts & Spotify every Tuesday at 5AM EST.
💜October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month💜 and here at Yo Quiero Dinero® , we wanted to shed light on a very unspoken topic: domestic violence.
Listen to this special bonus episode 179 featuring 2 real-life sisters sharing their stories of overcoming abusive relationships. Jannese has shared bits and pieces of recently divorcing her ex-husband after almost 10 years of marriage and this episode is the first time she is sharing her story to the world.
Domestic violence, also called “domestic abuse” or “intimate partner violence”, can be defined as a pattern of behavior in any relationship that is used to gain or maintain power and control over an intimate partner. When it comes to hearing the word domestic violence, society automatically assumes the relationship is physically abusive. While that may be the case for some, there are many different forms of abuse that are seen in these types of relationships.
Abuse can also be sexual, emotional, economic or psychological actions or threats of actions that influence another person. This includes any behaviors that frighten, intimidate, terrorize, manipulate, hurt, humiliate, blame, injure, or wound someone. Domestic violence can happen to anyone of any race, age, sexual orientation, religion, or gender.
We hope that episode 179 can shine the light on many types of abuse that are left unspoken. Did you know that 1 in 3 women and 1 in 7 men will become a victim of domestic violence in their lifetime? The numbers are staggering of this silent epidemic. If you haven’t personally dealt with this, you know someone who has. Abuse is abuse no matter what it looks like, and shouldn’t be acceptable to tolerate in any relationship.
No one deserves to be abused. The abuse is not your fault. You didn’t ask for it to happen. You didn’t do anything to cause the abuse to happen. Please know that we are sending you all the love and support & understand that you are not alone. Help is available to get you through your journey to healing💜.
