Accepting a new job offer is an exciting moment to have in life—allow us to be the first to congratulate you! The work you put into nailing an interview didn’t go unnoticed, but the work doesn’t stop there. Continue your success by preparing for the next steps in your job position. Read on to learn how!
Send a Thank You Email
After getting off the phone with the hiring manager, send an official email thanking them for the opportunity. Reaching out like this shows the company your excitement and enthusiasm for this new position. In addition, this opens a line of communication where you can receive information regarding the next steps for employment.
Put in Your Resignation at Your Current Employer
The most nerve-racking element throughout this whole process could be putting in your resignation letter with your current employer. There’s a chance they might give you a counteroffer, but stick to your plan because you want a new job for a reason. Agree on a termination date two weeks from now—this allows your current company time to find your replacement.
Prepare for Pre-Employment Tests
Depending on the company, you could have a mandatory pre-employment physical or drug screening before you can officially start your position. Typically the physical and screenings are through a clinic chosen by the employer. The manager should forward you more information regarding directions and what you can expect.
Start on Paperwork
When you’re starting over at a new business, you will need to fill out new tax forms, paycheck deposit information, emergency contacts, etc. Starting this next step immediately after accepting the job offer can alleviate your stress on the first day. Filling out the paperwork beforehand will show your new company that you’re responsible and serious about the position.
Take the time to prepare yourself before the official first day so that you can focus on being successful. Contact the new employer if you have any questions throughout onboarding to avoid confusion and miscommunication. Don’t be nervous; we know you’ll be a rockstar at your new job!
