This holiday season, we want to put our money behind our own communities. Shop early and shop consciously with our curated list of 15 of our favorite Latina-owned small businesses.
In early 2020 when COVID-19 hit the U.S., we saw a wave of support toward small businesses. We knew the stakes. Several months later, nothing has changed. Small businesses always need our support, especially as we continue rebuilding after the peak of the pandemic’s impact. And when we think about Black and brown owned small businesses, the impacts are even greater. Ahead of this year’s Small Business Saturday, we want to bring you a list of businesses to shop from this holiday season.
Clothing
Viva La Bonita
“Where the women are fearless” is the brand’s tagline. From Mexican-American founder Rachel Gomez, Viva La Bonita carries merch with taglines we love. Think: “Mija going places,” to “Allergic to pendejadas.”
GRL Collective
The brand that’s “designed for girls who give a f*ck” GRL Collective believes in ethical, sustainable, fair-trade practices, all while making clothing we love to see! The brand also donates a portion of its proceeds to different campaigns and organizations.
Hija De Tu Madre
This brand can be your go-to for all your witty, poderosa statement items. We’re talking “Jefa” earrings, jean jackets with a virgencita on the back, and BOLD t-shirts.
Selva Negra
A sustainable brand focused on ethical consumption and production, this brand celebrates individuality through storytelling and design. Selva Negra’s Mexican Filipino American creator, Kristen Gonzales, founded this brand in 2016 in the Bronx. Keep in mind: their higher prices are tied to their methods of production.
Jewelry
XIO by Ylette
Founder Ylette wanted to blend classy and trendy. This has resulted in a jewelry line that carries beautiful minimalist pieces to loud statement pieces. They also carry a monthly subscription box!
Hello Eanna
Founder Janae produces small-batch, handmade earrings we love! From colorful, bold styles to more simple, minimalist pairs, you’ll find something in this shop that’s perfect for someone in your life.
Coloured Particles
Yesica Hernandez, based in California, makes these small-batch, polymer clay earrings in new patterns we can’t wait to see. Every few weeks, she’ll introduce a new slab that she produces new designs out of. THIS is why we love small biz!
Luiny
Puertoriqueña Luiny Rivera invokes organic designs and figments of her travels into her jewelry. Each piece tells a story of Luiny, and we love that she chooses to share this with us.
Beauty & Body Products
Fab Glam Cosmetics
Founder Fabiola created this line to gift us with the bold lashes, pigments, and GLITTER we need in our life. Yes please!!
AlphaGurl Beauty
The brand for you to pause and give YOU some love. From body butter, body scrubs, to healing oils for eczema, you will DEFINITELY find something here to inspire some self-care in you or your loved ones.
Vive Cosmetics
First-gen founders Leslie and Joanna combined their love for all things beauty and cultura into this brand. And we’re glad they did because we LOVE their colors (peek above) and LOVE their names. Show us another shade called “yo puedo.” We’ll wait….
Brujita Skincare
Okay now wait. Bruja vibes + skincare??? Brand founder, Leah, created this all-natural skincare line for the “misfits that the natural beauty market left behind.” Find both skincare and body products with ingredients like Palo Santo oil, Jasmine, and Sandalwood.
Home & Art
Concrete Geometric
We love this shop because they give you the option of buying their beautiful, ready-to-use products, OR you can purchase a DIY kit to make your own!
Palm Crafted
Puertoriqueña founder Mimi and her husband fully launched this business after identifying candlemaking as their shared activity to decompress. Now, they focus on making candles (with yummy scents, like “Coquito!” ) and wood home decor.
Fearless Yaya
Sandra Lucia Diaz founded this brand after working in Beauty + Tech and witnessing the lack of representation of Latina stories. She wanted to see Latinidad and bad-ass mujeres at the center of our products; and so she founded a whole brand based off that.
